Bethesda director Todd Howard has recently had an interview with GameSpot about Fallout Shelter and their future in mobile gaming.
Fallout Shelter is Bethesda’s first ever mobile game. The strategy game allows players to take the role of overseer for their own vault. Players can build their vault and manage their survivors who live in it.
Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout Shelter is not going to be Bethesda’s only mobile game. He’s revealed that the team is working on another mobile game. According to him the team was “ecstatic when it was so successful” and that the response to the game blew them away.
Bethesda has been releasing regular patches and updates for Fallout Shelter to keep players interested. He added that the key to success in this market is to release new and engaging content for a mobile game to succeed. As a result, Fallout Shelter still has an active playerbase despite the game being released in 2015.
Fallout Shelter was released for Windows 10 and Xbox One earlier this month. There is no word on a PlayStation 4 release for the game however. The game is also available for PC through the Bethesda client Bethesda.net but there is no Steam version yet.
When talking about the company’s future in the mobile market, Howard stated that the team is working on another game. According to him, this game is something the team has been thinking about for a while. He told GameSpot that “based on the Shelter experience, we’re kind of rolling on something new”. However, he didn’t reveal any information about what this next game could be.
Bethesda has confirmed that they will be attending E3 later this year for the third time. Fallout Shelter was announced at E3 in 2015 so it’s possible the team will reveal this new mobile game at the even later this year.
