Xbox has reportedly sent users a survey asking whether game exclusivity would make them more likely to invest in its ecosystem. GamingBolt, citing Windows Central, reports that the questions cover both timed exclusives and fully platform-exclusive games. That is a report about audience research—not an announcement that Xbox is adopting a new exclusivity policy.
The reported survey names DOOM, The Elder Scrolls, Minecraft, Diablo and Fallout. It also includes Physint, the game being developed by Kojima Productions. The distinction between timed and full exclusivity matters here: the questions are testing interest in different restrictions, rather than presenting one settled approach to future releases.
One particularly broad hypothetical asks users to consider an announcement that all future releases from Xbox-developed franchises, except Call of Duty, would be console-exclusive to Xbox. The Call of Duty exception belongs to that proposed scenario; it should not be read as confirmation of a wider policy or a list of games whose release plans have changed.
The Minecraft scenario goes further than restricting future games. According to GamingBolt’s account, existing Minecraft titles would no longer be available to purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles and would receive no new content updates. That makes this question about continued support for existing releases as well as where future games might launch—a more consequential proposition for players already invested in those versions.
For context, GamingBolt also reports that Xbox previously said Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives, rather than timed exclusives. Xbox has also said games already announced for multiplatform releases will remain on that plan.
