Take-Two has taken its GTA 6 leak investigation to court, filing subpoenas targeting Microsoft and Discord through the Southern District Court of New York. The requests seek internal documents and records that could help identify the alleged infringer—or infringers—connected to the leaks.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reported on the filings, which outline the range of material involved and the information being requested from both platforms.
What Take-Two says was leaked
The subpoena document describes the leaked content as including audiovisual material, artwork, images, dialogue, and other creative elements.
Take-Two is seeking records that could identify the users, people, or entities allegedly linked to that material. Both Microsoft and Discord received legal requests for internal documents as part of the publisher’s effort to determine who may be connected to the leaks.
Microsoft’s “cyberleek” records
Microsoft’s request has a more specific focus. The company was asked to provide records associated with its own internal investigation into an online persona known as “cyberleek.”
Take-Two wants information that could identify users, individuals, or entities associated with that persona. Discord’s subpoena likewise seeks documents and records intended to assist with identifying the alleged party or parties behind the leaked creative content.
Should online platforms be required to provide internal records when publishers investigate major game leaks?
