A trailer for James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough became the centre of an AI dispute after System 3 Software temporarily closed its comments. The company later denied using generative AI in either the video or its character artwork.
Kotaku reports that System 3 is handling the project, which brings together 12 James Pond games and updates them for current platforms.
James Pond’s back catalogue returns
The collection draws from releases across the Amiga, Genesis, Commodore 64, and SNES. System 3 revealed the package with an announcement trailer, introducing the returning games and their move to modern hardware.
Discussion around that trailer soon shifted away from the collection itself, however, as viewers accused System 3 of using generative AI in its production.
Comments closed, then a direct denial
Following those accusations, System 3 temporarily shut down comments on the trailer. The company subsequently responded in that same comments section, directly addressing both the video and the associated artwork.
System 3 stated that no generative AI was used in the James Pond Legacy trailer. It also said the technology was not used to create the character artwork.
Does System 3’s stated denial settle the issue for you?
