Aspyr has released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition for modern platforms, reviving Snowblind Studios’ 2011 action RPG for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Eradan, Andriel and Farin remain the three playable heroes in a northern campaign running parallel to the War of the Ring. The modern release supports solo play, online co-op and shared or split-screen co-op, although local player limits differ by platform.
Platform details are not identical
The official Xbox listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, 60fps+ support and two-to-three-player online or local co-op. PlayStation’s listing confirms up to three online players and one-to-two local players on PS5. Steam lists single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op.
Those storefront details do not establish universal native 4K output, a locked 60fps mode on every console, Switch 2 DLSS settings, Series S resolution or cross-platform multiplayer. The earlier article overstated all of those points.
This revival is welcome because the original became difficult to buy on current systems. Its technical quality should still be judged through measured frame pacing, image quality and networking behaviour rather than assumed from marketing labels.
