Cat-Astrophy is out now on Xbox, Steam, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. The official announcement on Xbox Wire pairs that availability news with a breakdown of how combat customization and expedition progression work.
During runs, players can find modules that modify specific abilities, stats or systems. That makes build customization broader than simply increasing a stat: the modules can also affect the abilities and systems involved in a run.
Combat has its own customization layer, with directional attacks covering forward, upward and downward strikes. Fatigue builds as players chain attacks together, adding another consideration alongside which attacks to equip. The interesting tension is between configuring those strikes and deciding how long to keep a sequence going — not just choosing a direction to hit.
Outside combat, a ship serves as the central hub, where players choose the order of planets. Star Fragments collected during expeditions can unlock permanent upgrades, new options and new routes for future runs. That creates two distinct layers of progression: modules found during a run, and lasting unlocks that can change the choices available on later expeditions.
There is a story to piece together alongside those upgrades, too. Memory fragments gradually reveal Polo’s past and the truth behind his abduction, giving the expeditions a mystery beyond the next build decision.
