GTA 6 will include fuel management and fuel gauges, according to Rock Paper Shotgun, but the reported details suggest petrol stops won’t be a constant interruption. Vehicles can travel vast distances before running low, and refuelling can be done quickly and without fuss.
The report also confirms engine-health readouts and fuel tanks that can contain varying amounts of gas. That makes fuel level another vehicle condition to keep track of, alongside the engine’s state, rather than simply a decorative dashboard detail.
The interesting distinction is between having a fuel system and making it demanding. Long driving ranges and quick refills point towards a relatively light-touch mechanic, rather than intensive resource management. They don’t establish how often players will need to stop during ordinary gameplay, though, so it would be premature to treat fuel as either a major strategic concern or something players can safely ignore.
There’s another practical reason to pay attention to the car: the same report says weapons a character has no room to carry are stored in their vehicle’s trunk. Taken together, these details suggest cars have a broader role as resources to manage — not just transport — with fuel, engine condition and spare weapon storage each giving them a distinct function.
Rockstar will ship the console version featuring fuel management next month. The PC version will follow at some point after the console release, according to the report.
