Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 and S9 FE families are set to receive their final major Android update in 2026, according to Engadget Gaming. The report identifies the Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S9 FE and S9 FE+ as reaching that cutoff, with One UI 9, based on Android 17, slated as their final major OS release.
That is a major-update deadline, not an immediate end to security support. Engadget Gaming says the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets should continue receiving security updates until sometime in 2028. For owners weighing whether to keep their tablet, that distinction matters: the operating-system upgrade schedule and security-patch schedule have different endpoints.
The timeline follows the original support commitment rather than a newly shortened one. As Engadget Gaming recounts, the Galaxy Tab S9 series arrived in 2023 running One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, with Samsung promising four generations of major OS updates and five years of security patches. Android 17 puts the series at the end of that promised major-upgrade run.
Other Galaxy tablets have already reached their own cutoff. According to Engadget Gaming, the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra have received their final major OS upgrade: One UI 8, based on Android 16. The same report identifies Android 16 as the last major update for the Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+.
The longer support policy belongs to a later generation. Engadget Gaming reports that Samsung began its seven-year tablet software-update policy with the Galaxy Tab S10 series, which launched in 2024—a useful generational distinction for anyone comparing Samsung tablets on support lifespan.
