Fantasy Flight Games has previewed Arkham Horror Remastered ahead of a Gamefound campaign launching in a few days, according to Gamefound information relayed in IGN’s preview. The campaign is intended to make the project a reality. IGN describes Remastered as a revival of Arkham Horror Second Edition, which has been out of print for a number of years.
The changes include work on how the rules are communicated, rather than simply bringing the game back into print. Speaking to IGN, designer Dane Beltrami says rules have been clarified through wording or graphic design. His stated goal for the updates is to reduce how frequently players need to look up rules during play. That makes readability a meaningful part of the remaster’s pitch: the intended benefit is less interruption at the table, not just revised presentation for its own sake.
There is also a concrete change to the turn structure. Beltrami tells IGN that Remastered combines the Arkham Encounter Phase and Other World Encounter Phase into one Encounter Phase. Of the changes described, this is the clearest example of streamlining the game’s procedures rather than explaining them differently. It should be judged as a structural revision, though the preview’s stated aim is smoother play rather than a claim that the game has become simpler overall.
The project also opens a broader revival effort. IGN reports that Arkham Horror Remastered is the first release in Fantasy Flight Games’ Vault Series, which the publisher describes as bringing classic games from its backlog back to modern audiences. An out-of-print edition of Arkham Horror is the starting point for that return to the vault.
