We’ve been hearing about the multiplayer update coming to indie favorite Stardew Valley for some time now, but details have been scarce. Thanks to Eric Barone, a.k.a. ConcernedApe, we know have a new peek at the game’s multiplayer feature and other incoming content additions.
Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, shared the below screenshot and message on his Twitter recently. The image shows four players working on a farm together with two small cabins at the top. Looks like up to four people will be able to work together via LAN play, and apparently you can be neighbors with your friends. Also… is that a flamingo? On a farm? It’s more likely than you think.
4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house… it's really fun. It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid. Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can't wait to share this pic.twitter.com/Sjxyd712BK

Okay, the flamingo is likely a new type of scarecrow now that I think about. Whatever. Still cool.
Following the tweet, fans had some questions about the multiplayer update, and Barone responded to a couple of them. So if you’re wondering, yes, multiplayer works online in addition to LAN. What’s more, you will be able to marry another player, in case none of the local NPC’s strike your fancy.
Besides the multiplayer update, there’s much more content coming to Stardew Valley, including a new town event, customizable signs, more NPC events, additional outdoor decorations, and more. Check out our content roundup for more information on what’s coming to the farming sim soon.
Thankfully, Barone also shared the following: “I’m finished with the new content and have shifted all my attention to getting multiplayer ready!” That’s great to hear, seeing as the update has been pushed back a time or two.
Stardew Valley‘s free multiplayer patch, which should bring other listed additions as well, is scheduled to launch sometime in early 2018. There is no official release date for the update yet, but we’ll keep you posted on the latest news.
