Everyone try to act surprised.
I bet you didn’t see this coming! Rockstar finally officially announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed in the works. An update on its official page and social media outlets said as much. “Red Dead Redemption 2 will release worldwide in Fall 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.” You’ll notice, my PC gaming brethren, that there was no mention of a PC release. I expect that won’t change going forward, so that’s a bit of a bummer.
There’s not much to go off of as far as what we can expect in the game itself. All we’ve seen up to this point is a red logo and a picture of some dudes – both of which were used as teasers. Teasers by their nature aren’t typically very informative. We can look forward to an interesting multiplayer component, however. “An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”
A brand new online multiplayer experience, huh? That does make the second teaser image a little more interesting, as it shows seven hombres silhouetted against the sunset. Could we be looking at a new type of game altogether for the Red Dead series? Maybe some kind of open world multiplayer game? Right now I’m picturing a western-themed Grand Theft Auto Online, but I’m going to hope that they’re a little more innovative than that.
Hopefully we’ll learn a little more about the game tomorrow (October 20) when the debut trailer lands. You’ll be able to watch it at 11 AM EST (it’s high noon somewhere) on the official site, or on Rockstar’s YouTube and Twitch accounts. We’ll keep you updated with any exciting revelations!
