PlayStation Unveils AI “Pseudo Account” to Combat Hazardous Users

PlayStation has patented an AI “pseudo account” system designed to identify potentially hazardous users before they can target real players. The patent, reported by GamingBolt, describes a Large Language Model-powered social integrity tool that could mimic the messaging habits of a potential victim while appearing legitimate to suspicious accounts.

The concept is to create a controlled decoy account that gives bad actors an opportunity to reveal themselves without involving an actual player in the conversation.

How PlayStation’s AI pseudo account would work

Patent 18/314775, titled “Large Language Model Powered Social Integrity System,” outlines an account that can imitate a target demographic’s messaging behavior. This could include presenting itself as a minor in online spaces where an antisocial user may attempt contact.

Rather than immediately banning an account after a single interaction, the system would flag suspicious behavior and allow the user to make an initial approach toward a legitimate account. If that activity meets the system’s criteria, PlayStation could warn other users who interact with the flagged account.

Suspicious activity includes.

  • Spam: Attempts to send unsolicited messages.
  • Scams: Efforts to deceive users for personal gain.
  • Requests for personal information: Inquiries that seek sensitive data.
  • Inappropriate messages: Content that violates community standards.
  • Efforts to contact a potential minor: Attempts to engage with underage users.
  • In-game cheating: Actions that undermine fair play.

The pseudo account acts as a detector, not a visible monitor. A hazardous user would not necessarily know they were speaking to an AI-controlled account, which is what gives the system its potential effectiveness.

A warning system, not an announced PlayStation Network feature

Patents often describe ideas that never reach consumer products, and PlayStation has not announced this pseudo-account system as a live PlayStation Network feature. Still, the filing suggests a more proactive form of moderation than the current report-and-wait model, which leaves players to deal with the consequences after a scam, harassment attempt, or cheating incident has occurred.

This approach matters most in social spaces around multiplayer games: direct messages, party chats, group invites, trading conversations, and other places where a friendly request can quickly turn sour. A warning attached to a suspicious account would not solve every moderation issue but could give players useful context before accepting an invite, sharing information, or continuing a conversation.

The real test is whether AI can protect players without treating them like suspects

On paper, this is a practical use of generative AI: placing a decoy in front of scammers, cheaters, and users seeking vulnerable targets instead of asking players to absorb the risk themselves. The challenge will be accuracy. A system that warns about genuinely dangerous behavior could make PlayStation’s social features safer; one that over-flags ordinary banter or competitive trash talk would risk losing players’ trust.

For now, the PlayStation AI pseudo account remains a patent rather than a confirmed feature. It offers insight into how platform moderation might shift from reacting to abuse toward quietly catching it in the act.

Would you welcome an AI decoy that warns you about suspicious PlayStation users, or does that kind of monitoring cross a line? Share your thoughts in the comments.
