The split is easy to understand. PS Plus Extra’s selection features a mix of genres, from the co-op live-service firefights of Helldivers 2 to the grounded role-playing of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the unique action RPG Hell Is Us, and the addictive survivor loop of Vampire Survivors. This variety means there’s something for everyone, but it may not cater to a single genre preference.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Leads the Early Extra Vote
As of publication, 33 people had voted on their feelings about August’s PS Plus Extra lineup. The most positive response, “Yes, very happy,” led with 33 percent, while “Yeah, mostly happy” accounted for another 21 percent. However, 18 percent of respondents found the selection disappointing, and 12 percent indicated they do not subscribe to Extra.
The more revealing poll asks which game players want to try first. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 led with 24 percent of 29 votes, followed by Helldivers 2 at 17 percent. Notably, “None of them, to be honest” was close behind at 28 percent, highlighting that variety does not guarantee a must-play month for every subscriber.
The headliners offer distinct reasons to make room on the console. Helldivers 2 arrives after a series of updates, providing newcomers with a substantial co-op shooter experience. In contrast, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 presents a realistic, simulation-leaning RPG approach that requires patience but rewards players with an immersive adventure.
Beyond these two, Dying Light 2 and Metro Exodus explore the post-apocalyptic genre, while Two Point Museum and Umamusume Pretty Derby – Party Dash add a lighter, more offbeat flavor to the lineup. This diversity means there’s no single “correct” pick, but a strong chance that one game will resonate with individual players.
Premium Gets a Capcom Throwback and a PS1 Film Tie-In
PS Plus Premium adds two older titles: Capcom’s PS2 action game Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, a PS1 adaptation of the animated film. Onimusha is the more enticing nostalgia pick, especially with Onimusha: Way of the Sword set to release next month.
The Premium response has been cooler so far. Of 27 votes, 48 percent came from individuals who do not have Premium, while 22 percent expressed happiness with its additions. For subscribers already paying for the higher tier, two classics may feel underwhelming compared to Extra’s larger modern-game offering, even if Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is a welcome return from an era when Capcom action games embraced creativity and style.
A Good Month Depends on Whether One Game Becomes Your Next Obsession
This month doesn’t require every subscriber to sample all 10 games for the selection to feel worthwhile. A player seeking a huge RPG, a fresh co-op game, a challenging action adventure, or a nostalgic Capcom title has clear options. Others may look at the same list and find several games they respect but aren’t eager to install.
