Microsoft has announced that they are having a new round of maintenance updates. Major Nelson posted an update on his blog to announce this new update. According to him, this update is just a “scheduled maintenance” update. So there will be no new features coming today.

The scheduled update will be affecting Xbox 360 games that are playable on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility. Playing a Xbox 360 game during this time could result in disconnections one or more times. However, all other Xbox One titles will not be affected by today’s update.

There’s no explanation yet on what this update is for but news on this should be coming soon. Hopefully Major Nelson will update his blog with an explanation over the next few days. We will provide you with an update as soon as we learn more about this sudden round of maintenance.

The update will be taking place today between 8:00 AM UTC and 10: AM UTC / 4:00 AM ET and 6:00 AM ET.

In other Xbox One news, three new games have been added to the backwards compatibility program. Owning a digital copy of these three games will cause them to appear in the Xbox One library for download: TimeShift, Assault Heroes 2 and Commanders: Attack. While all of these game can be downloaded digitally, it’s also possible to play TimeShift from a physical disc.

Assault Heroes 2 and Commanders: Attack each cost $5 in the Xbox Store. However, TimeShift costs $30 to purchase.

There are now more than 300 games included in the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program. Last week the program gained games such as Contra and RoboBlitz. Call of Duty: Black Ops II was recently added also.

We’ll keep you updated as Microsoft continue to release more games into the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program. New games should be coming some time next week.
