Multi-Link expands wireless streaming
The key addition is Multi-Link Operation. In its gaming-focused breakdown, BGR reports that the feature enables devices to use concurrent streams across multiple frequency bands at the same time.
The outlet also highlights the Asus RT-BE96U as a current router example, reporting that it can reach speeds of up to 3,490 Mbps.
Not every device supports the latest wireless standard, but incompatible hardware does not attempt to use it. BGR says those devices instead default to the best wireless standard available to them. That makes device compatibility an essential part of the comparison when considering Multi-Link functionality.
Ethernet remains less obstruction-prone
Physical layout still distinguishes wired and wireless connections. BGR notes that Ethernet is less susceptible than Wi-Fi to obstructions created by walls and other physical objects.
