Rumours of Ori 3 have been shut down by Thomas Mahler, director of both released Ori games and current CEO of Moon Studios. Writing on X, Mahler called the claims “nonsense,” offering a direct response to the recent chatter.
As covered by DualShockers, Mahler also addressed a separate discussion happening within Moon Studios: whether the developer should buy back the Ori intellectual property.
Moon Studios has discussed an IP buyback
Mahler said Moon Studios had been talking internally about potentially buying back the property. His comments confirm that the subject has been under discussion at the studio, while remaining separate from the rumours surrounding another game.
For now, the clearest message is Mahler’s rejection of those sequel claims. The possibility of an IP buyback is something Moon has considered internally, but it does not change his description of the current rumours.
Both Ori games remain on Game Pass
Players can access Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps through Xbox Game Pass. Those are the two Moon Studios titles at the centre of the renewed interest prompted by Mahler’s comments.
The situation is therefore straightforward: rumours of a third entry have been labelled “nonsense,” while Moon’s internal conversations have focused on whether it should regain the Ori IP.
