Respawn not only delivered one of the best games of 2016 in Titanfall 2, they also promised completely free DLC. A new mode and classic map are next on the schedule.
The information comes via the Frontier News Network posted on Titanfall 2’s website. The new mode Live Fire was introduced in the last FNN and this time, developer Griffin Dean explained the mode in detail.
“Live Fire is a fast-paced round-based 6v6 pilot only elimination mode. Each round gives players only 60 seconds to eliminate the enemy team or take control of the neutral flag. The team that holds the neutral flag when the timer runs out wins the round regardless of how many players they’ve lost. Knowing how and when to pick up the flag is a core aspect of the mode’s meta.”
Dean noted the inspiration came from a form of paintball called speedball.
“ We wanted to capture the spirit of these lightning-fast competitive matches and give it a Titanfall twist. Live Fire, like speedball, is fundamentally about forward momentum. You have to advance against the enemy, attack aggressively without hesitation, and make split second decisions that can make or break your team’s victory.”
Live Fire will be played on maps exclusive to the mode: Stacks and Meadow. Both are designed to encourage confrontation and strategic choke points. It’s due to launch in February.
But wait, there’s more
After Live Fire, players can expect “bug fixes, balance tweaks, and new features online. Not to mention a new weapon, Pilot execution, and more”.
Although the maps and modes will always be free, new Prime Titans and cosmetics will be available for purchase.
A Classic Returns in March
Fans of the first Titanfall should be familiar with Colony.
Zero details were given other than this screenshot. I didn’t play the first game but I’ve heard many yearn for its multi-tiered structures that promoted and rewarded skilled movement. Hopefully Colony lives up to the hype and shows me a good time.
