Developer Rebellion have released a new trailer for the 4th game in the Sniper Elite franchise. The trailer is captured entirely by in-game footage. It provides new information on the story, setting and gameplay.

Also announced was a live Twitch stream hosted by the game devs. The stream will be an hour long. It includes exclusive live session multiplayer action. Two multiplayer game modes in Sniper Elite 4 will be used – ‘No Cross’ and ‘Control’. Prizes will be given away during the stream. Hopefully a few of us are lucky to get some free copies of the game. The stream is on Wednesday 1st February at 6pm UK, 1pm ET and 10am PT.

Sniper Elite 4 – The Facts

If you’re unfamiliar with the game the setting is Italy, during WWII. The Italians are controlled by the fascist dictatorship of Nazi Germany. Across the mediterranean, the Allies have taken victory in North Africa. This has provided an opportunity for them to strike the Mediterranean. This is where you come in. The Allies need you. A specialist, an elite marksman, to take down enemy ranks. You can win control of Nazi weapons and win back Europe. If you need help with your strategy, the campaign can be played with a second player.

The environment is said to be the largest ever seen in a WWII game. Each level is much larger than any previous level in Sniper Elite. Settings include fishing villages, mountainous valley’s and ancient forests. Areas can be explored to find hidden regions and collectables, and optional side missions.

Gameplay

Sniper Elite 4 is for the strategist. You can find advantageous positions for long shots, or go up-close and use tactical weapons. The trailer stresses the importance to study your enemy and their movements. This can be done two ways. You can observe enemies using binoculars, or source information from Italian resistance.

You’re also related to Spiderman and Solid Snake. Not really. But you can use your athleticism to climb up to higher ground and sneak up on enemies for silent takedowns. Take pin-point shots from 100s of meters, cover your tracks and plant explosives and use suppressed ammo for increased advantage. If you don’t have any suppressed ammo, time your shots with artillery shots for the same effect. When it comes to tanks and other artillery, heavy weapons are available.

There are over a 100 different fascist enemies, armoured vehicles and tanks in any one environment. Elite troops and radio operators need special attention. Taking down officers can give you access to logbooks with information of enemy locations. You can also use their flare guns for bombings on their own troops. That will be so satisfying.

There’s a huge range of upgradable weapons include iconic WWII rifles. Weapon Loadouts can be adapted to suit certain positions and strategies.

Competitive and co-op play will be available for up to four players. Multiplayer includes six custom designed maps. Competitive multiplayer has seven different adversarial modes.

How does Sniper Elite 4 look to you? Will it be the “most advanced sniping game ever built”? Let us know in the comments.

His passion grew when he discovered his Aunt's Atari 2600 and was given a Game Boy for Christmas from his Pa. His favourite console has been the PlayStation 1. Right now he has become a little lazy with gaming but still enjoys the occasional FIFA session. He hopes to get back into playing games more regularly so he can switch off from the real world like he did as a Kid. He's excited about the introduction of VR and hopes for some great VR titles.
