Arkane’s Prey is out and the crafting system is apparently broken (in the player’s favor).

Random Chievo was the first to upload a video detailing the glitch that can provide the player with unlimited crafting materials.

The player must first get to Morgan Yu’s office and be able to use the material recycler.

From the video

Step 1. Find a recycling machine and bring materials (You can only duplicate materials)

2. Put a stack of materials in the machine (if you check the screen, you see that you get exactly what you put in)

3. Split the stack multiple times inside the machine to duplicate

Surely this will be top priority for patching out so take advantage now if you feel the need. Even if you don’t feel like cheating at the moment it wouldn’t hurt to make a separate save with a ridiculous amount of materials just in case.

The glitch reportedly works on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Prey’s release snuck up on me, partially due to Bethesda’s newest review policy. Rather than provide most major review outlets with an advanced copy several days or weeks before launch, they’ve been mysteriously selective. IGN’s reviewer for example, reported he didn’t get his copy until May 4th. However, certain YouTubers have claimed to have received the game much earlier and have already completed a review. The ones I’ve seen have been around the 9/10 mark.

I find it hard to trust any review when they’re so selectively handed out. It would obviously be in Bethesda’s best interests to choose reviewers most likely to review the game strongly. Of course this is all speculative, but since it goes against their initial claim of ‘everyone experiencing the game at the same time’, I can’t help but smell something fishy.

The potentially shady tactics are an unfortunate side-story on what I hope is a successful game. I adored Arkane’s Dishonored 2 last year and thought Prey showed a lot of promise as a modern throwback to classic PC FPS adventure games like Half-Life and System Shock.

Our reviewer Matthew Owen will have his review up as soon as he can and will join me on GameThinkTalk sometime this weekend to chat everything he’s gleaned by that point.

Will you take advantage of the Prey Glitch?

Mathew Falvai

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
