One of the most successful and iconic RPGs of all-time finally received an official remaster last October, and if you haven’t tried it yet, nows your chance to play it FREE. The weekend offer is available for Steam and Xbox owners, starts right now, and continues until this Sunday.
Xbox One players are required to have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. Their weekend offer stops at Sunday 11:59 PM PST.
The Steam offer is half a day shorter, expiring at Sunday 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST.
If your free trial awakens the dragon-born inside you, compelling a massive adventure, you can purchase the full version at a discounted rate (%50) until September 18th (Xbox, $30) or September 19th (Steam, $20).
The Special Edition ramped up the visuals of the 2011 PS3/360/PC title, and also includes every DLC add-on, and the ability to use mods on console. After a long tease, Skyrim: Special Edition was also confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, but is obviously not a part of this promotion.
Bethesda announced the promotion on Twitter:
“This weekend #Xbox One uses can return to Skyrim – for FREE – w/ out first ever free weekend for #SkyrimSpecialEdition – 9:41 AM – Sep. 7, 2017″
“Winner of more than 200 Game of the Year Awards, Skyrim Special Edition brings the epic fantasy to life in stunning detail. The Special Edition includes the critically acclaimed game and add-ons with all-new features like remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more.”
Minimum PC specs are Win 7 64-bit, i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945, 8GB Ram, Nviia GTX 470 1GB /AMD HD 7870 2 GB, 12 GB HD space.
Several Steam reviews still recommend the original with visual mods over the Special Edition, but now you can check it out for yourself, risk-free.
Personally, I’ve only dove deep into Morrowind but would love to take a few cruise around the Viking-inspired map to see what all the fuss was about, six years ago.
