Capcom is releasing a new remastered version of the stylish action-adventure game Okami, developed by Clover Studio and initially released in 2006. Okami HD is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC December 12th in North America and Europe, December 13th in Japan. The announcement was made in the latest issue of Famitsu, as reported by Gematsu.
The below statement is from Capcom’s press release:
“The original game, released to critical and consumer acclaim in 2006, was hailed as one of the most beautiful games ever created, and this latest release with its renowned Sumi-e ink art style is now even more breath-taking as the graphics have been updated to take advantage of modern high resolutions.”
All versions will be available digitally at $19.99 /£15.99. Only PS4 consoles will see a physical release.
Okami originally launched on the PS2 in 2006, followed by the Wii in 2008. Okami HD actually saw a release for PS3 in 2012, but this new version will bring back the loading screen mini-games removed from the Wii and PS3 versions. All platform versions of Okami HD will support 4K graphics, so if you have a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, or a powerful enough PC, you can take advantage of the advanced visuals.
So far there is no word of Okami HD releasing on Nintendo Switch, even though every other current gen platform is being supported. There are so many reasons why it makes sense to bring Okami HD to the Switch, especially since Capcom is already releasing some of their titles to the console. The original game released on the Wii, and the only sequel, Okamiden, released on the DS in 2011.
We’re hoping Capcom is simply taking their time working in Joy-Con and HD rumble support for Okami HD, so fingers are crossed for an announcement for a Switch version soon. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest news.
