Horizon Hunters Gathering is reportedly abandoning its live-service direction after early private playtests generated poor feedback, prompting Guerrilla Games to overhaul the project rather than cancel it.
According to Eurogamer’s coverage of Bloomberg’s report, sources familiar with the company’s plans said Guerrilla has been reworking the Horizon project since June. The changes were reportedly initiated in direct response to reactions from private playtesters.
Story mode replaces the live-service focus
Bloomberg reported that Guerrilla is removing the game’s live-service mechanics and shifting its attention toward a dedicated story mode. The project is also said to be moving forward with a smaller overall scope.
That represents a substantial change in direction for Horizon Hunters Gathering. Rather than continuing with its previously planned structure, Guerrilla is reportedly reshaping the game around a more contained experience following the unfavorable testing response.
The reporting does not detail what the revised story mode will involve or which specific live-service systems have been cut.
Guerrilla still faces a PlayStation deadline
Despite the overhaul, Horizon Hunters Gathering has reportedly not been cancelled. Guerrilla is continuing development while working against an internal deadline that could determine the project’s future.
Bloomberg’s sources said the studio has until December to impress PlayStation executives with the revised version. For now, the game remains in development, but its next steps appear to depend on how the smaller, story-focused reboot is received internally.
