Halo Studios says the next Halo: Campaign Evolved update will arrive next week on PS5, with fixes for blocked mission progression, Jackal stagger behavior, visual effects, and stability. Push Square reported the update after the studio detailed several of the patch’s main changes.
Sgt. Johnson Should Stop Blocking Progress
The patch targets a progression problem involving Sgt. Johnson in The Most Dangerous Game. At the first bridge area, Johnson could stop moving, leaving the checkpoint and objective unable to advance.
Push Square reviewer Liam Croft said he encountered the issue during a pre-release playthrough and had to push Johnson’s character model forward to trigger progression. Halo Studios’ update aims to prevent that interruption from stopping the mission.
Jackal Staggering Gets More Reliable
Halo Studios is also adjusting Jackal combat behavior. Players should be able to stagger the shield-carrying enemies more reliably by targeting their hands and feet.
Push Square reported that shooting the opening on the side of a Jackal’s shield did not produce a stagger as consistently as expected in Campaign Evolved. The patch addresses that reliability problem, giving players a clearer way to create an opening during fights.
Visual Toggles and Magnified Skull Changes
The update adds switches for Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain, letting players remove those post-processing effects. That change gives players more control over the game’s presentation without altering the campaign’s core systems.
The Magnified Skull also receives a gameplay adjustment. Marines and Flood Marines will fire their Assault Rifles while the Skull is active, and the weapon will use a 60-round magazine under that effect. Halo Studios also listed additional stability improvements across multiple platforms.
These fixes matter most to players who have hit a progression blocker or found Jackal encounters less predictable than intended. The visual options offer a separate quality-of-life choice, while the Magnified Skull change improves how that modifier behaves during combat.
