Marvel’s Wolverine will run at 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled in Performance Mode on the standard PS5. Insomniac also says that mode will serve as the game’s default presentation when it launches on September 15.
The confirmation comes from GamingBolt’s report, which cites comments made by Insomniac in an interview with IGN.
Insomniac Builds Around Ray-Traced 60 FPS
Insomniac says the team designed Marvel’s Wolverine around a 60 FPS target on the base PS5 from early development. That differs from the studio’s usual approach, where ray-traced performance options arrived later alongside fidelity and performance modes.
“From early on in development, we knew we wanted to make this 60 FPS, working on the base PS5 in performance mode. And we’ve definitely been able to accomplish that. The game feels super smooth.”
The GamingBolt report says Insomniac treated ray-traced 60 FPS as a central production goal rather than a late addition. The studio also describes this as the first time one of its games will ship with ray-traced 60 FPS as the default mode.
That confirmation establishes the intended frame rate and ray-tracing support. However, it does not provide a resolution figure, upscaling method, frame-pacing results, or measured performance from retail hardware.
A World Built to React
The technical focus extends beyond lighting. Unlike the city-heavy settings of the Marvel’s Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Wolverine moves through Canadian wilderness, Madripoor, and jungle environments.
According to the GamingBolt report, Insomniac invested in foliage technology for those locations. Plants react to wind, characters, and nearby environmental activity, creating what the studio calls a “very reactive” world.
Destruction also supports the game’s combat. Insomniac says “most” environmental props can break and react in physically accurate ways. Market stalls, tables, and other nearby objects can splinter or fly apart during fights.
“Logan’s a really destructive character.”
The goal is to make combat leave a visible mark on the surrounding space. After a major battle, players should not simply walk through an untouched market or other occupied area.
What the Confirmation Means for PS5 Players
A default 60 FPS ray-tracing mode could reduce the need to choose between smoother controls and advanced lighting on the base PS5. It also places the burden on the final image-quality settings and frame pacing, which Insomniac has not detailed in the supplied evidence.
The story follows Logan as he struggles with his place in the world and his troubled memories. Jean Grey, Sabertooth, and Mystique appear, while the X-Men do not yet exist in this version of the story.
PlayStation has also revealed special PS5 console bundles inspired by the Battle Reborn outfit and Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton. The available evidence does not include their prices or additional specifications.

The Technical Outlook
Insomniac’s announcement gives base PS5 owners a clear target: 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled in the default mode. It does not yet prove how consistently the game will hold that target during its busiest scenes.
Resolution, image reconstruction, and frame-pacing data will need hands-on testing after launch. For now, the player-facing impact is straightforward: Marvel’s Wolverine is designed to prioritize responsive combat while keeping ray-traced effects active on the standard PS5.
