Spooky Pinball has quickly become one of the top dogs in modern pinball manufacturing, thanks to solid recent releases like Halloween, Rick & Morty, and Total Nuclear Annihilation. Their next upcoming project, the Scooby Doo pinball machine, looks like the perfect combo of Spooky’s signature branding and a classic cartoon IP. After watching the announcement trailer, I was hesitant but hyped, hopeful that the new pin would live up to expectations. Now that Spooky has released a lengthy video showing off the gameplay, I can’t wait to spend some quarters.
Spooky Scooby Doo Pinball Machine is Coming Soon
Tapping deep into our collective nostalgia, the Scooby Doo pinball machine is based on the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! cartoon from 1969, created by the legendary animators at Hanna-Barbera. Centered around a team of crime-thwarting sleuths, Scooby Doo is a theme that lends itself well to pinball, with memorable music, characters, and art.
The Scooby Doo pinball machine is utterly packed with features, including five-player multiplayer, an upper playfield, and beautiful LED light shows. The playfield design also looks clean and easy to read, with colorful wireframes and a few exceptionally cool toys.
Scooby Doo Pinball Rules and Gameplay
Spooky Pinball recently dropped the first gameplay demonstration of Scooby Doo pinball, with a 40-minute long video that details the various modes, multi-balls, and gameplay features. The overall objective of the game is to choose your character, collect clues by hitting specific shots, investigate mysteries, and unmask every villain by completing their unique mode. Bonuses can be earned by keeping your “bravery meter” high, collecting Scooby snacks, and more.
The features that stand out the most to me include the Captain Cutler Multiball mode, which is started by bashing the toy in the upper playfield. Each member of the Mystery Inc gang has unique perks, so it’ll be fun to figure out which character works best for my play style. I’m also a sucker for any pinball machine that’s themed around monsters (Monster Bash, Elvira’s House of Horrors, Godzilla), so the main villain modes are especially appealing.
Scooby Doo pinball machines are now being manufactured by Spooky Pinball LLC and will begin appearing at locations around the world in just a few weeks. Check your local arcades or use Pinball Map to find places to play Scooby Doo pinball near you! If you’re interested in purchasing one for your home arcade or personal collection, you can order yours on Spooky’s website. Either way, I can’t wait to play it and will be sure to return with my thoughts once I’ve had a chance to flip around.
