Project Scorpio

Is it a leak from a rogue E3 host? Is it just speculation? Did Phil Spencer put him up to it? No one knows why, but E3 Coliseum host Geoff Keighley has posted some details of Microsoft’s Project Scorpio today ahead of the console’s official unveiling.

Today, Keighley tweeted that the high-powered Project Scorpio console will be priced at $500. He says he’s confident that’s the price Microsoft will announced at their E3 press conference today, “unless something changes” before then.

That’s some bold and strange intel coming from Keighley, who’s known for The Game Awards. He’s been a journalist and host and generally well-known person in the gaming industry, but he’s never been known for leaking console information, though I don’t doubt he’s in a position to pick up intel like this.

Again, he’s hosting a live event at E3, where this information is planned to be revealed later today. Why Keighley decided to leak information from his own event has us all puzzled.

Regardless, Scorpio’s speculated $500 price point is interesting. It’s $100 higher than the PS4 Pro it will be competing with, but Scorpio features much more power and a 4K UHD Blu-Ray player.

Microsoft’s Scorpio-focused press conference is scheduled for today, Sunday June 11th at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET. Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the conference will last longer than their normal 90 minutes, so get your snacks and beverages ready now.

The Xbox conference should reveal the official name, price, and release date of Project Scorpio, as well as some game announcements for new console exclusives and updates on popular franchises like Halo.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest news from Microsoft, as well as all of E3 2017.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
