May is just around the corner, and we’re anticipating some fun new games for all platforms next month. Let’s take a look at the most exciting upcoming titles.
Prey – May 5th
The first big release hits May 5th with Bethesda and Arkane Studio’s Prey. Prey is a first-person sci-fi action game that reimagines the original 2006 title from the ground up. The only remaining feature is the fact that you’re being chased by aliens.
It was also developed as a spiritual successor to System Shock, providing players with a non-linear game progression for a more immersive experience.
PS4 and Xbox One players can check out the game early on April 27th when the free demo goes live.
Prey hits shelves May 5th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Birthdays: The Beginning – May 9th
Just a few days later, legendary Harvest Moon developer Yasuhiro Wada brings his newest game to players’ homes. Birthdays: The Beginning is a colorful, charming god game with intuitive mechanics.
In this game, you create your vibrant world on a grid, changing the type of environment and temperature by altering the topography of the land. The world you build also gives life to a massive array of life, ranging from single-celled organisms to lions and dinosaurs.
While playing, you switch between Birthdays’ two modes to both alter the lay of the land and progress time to watch new lifeforms develop.
Birthdays: The Beginning launches on May 9th for PS4 and PC.
Injustice 2 – May 16th
If you haven’t heard about this game, you haven’t been on the internet much. Injustice 2 is an upcoming fighter game offering up the biggest and baddest DC heroes and villains as playable characters.
The roster for Injustice 2 is growing seemingly every day, and it’s hyping people up. Everyone from Superman to Batman to Harley Quinn to Scarecrow will be at your disposal–and there are still 11 fighters who remain a mystery.
You can play as every character a little bit here and there, or you can focus on one fighter to power up into their ultimate form.
Injustice 2 releases May 16th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia – May 19th
This upcoming 3DS title is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was released in 1992 for the NES. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia offers an array of new features for series fans, from a non-linear mission path to encounterable enemies in the world.
Additionally, Echoes follows a pair of “dueling” protagonists that you’ll swap between throughout the game. A different kind of Fire Emblem, but we’re excited for it all the same.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia launches May 19th for Nintendo 3DS systems.
Rime – May 26th
The anticipated physics-puzzling indie adventure Rime is finally launching next month. It was originally announced as a PS4 exclusive in 2013 but is now coming to Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch as well.
Rime has been compared to titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Ico. In this game, you explore a beautiful cel-shaded world and unlock its secrets with the help of an adorable fox.
While the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Rime release May 26th, the Switch version will launch sometime after that in Summer 2017.
