Age of Wonders 4’s latest expansion, The Silver Seas, is out now, adding the Mercantile Culture and the ability to establish cities at sea. As detailed in Xbox Wire’s launch rundown, those sea cities can also be transformed into floating fortresses.
That’s the standout addition here: the aquatic theme extends into where players can build, rather than stopping at new seafaring people or spells. The Mercantile Culture puts settlement placement at the centre of the expansion’s appeal.
The Silver Seas also introduces two piracy options with different approaches. The Cartel grows through smuggling and secrecy, while the Barony can place bounties on enemies and import resources its empire needs. The distinction suggests a choice between clandestine growth and a more explicit mix of targeting rivals and supplying an empire — not simply two different pirate labels.
Rounding out the additions are Sharkkin and Aqualon, two seafaring peoples, plus a Magic Tome that uses water magic and includes ice magic. Alongside the Mercantile Culture’s offshore settlements, they give the expansion’s maritime theme a place in both faction-building and magic.
