$162 budget video game kicks off new releases this week

  • August 26, 2019

Conrad in Mad of Medan

We’re all told you don’t need any money to create a startup, start a vlog channel or open up a donut shop – yes, I’m tired of hearing it too. Once again, we’ve been proved you don’t by Dynamic Voltage Games and their debut title Pirates of First Star.

The story looks interesting, visuals are a fresh throwback to the PS1 era and the main character is delightful. The game launches today on the Xbox One and is currently being crowdfunded to support its release on PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.

“The characters are claymation. My artistic skills are lacking, and my budget was lacking even more, so I had to figure out a way to pull this off…” – Dynamic Voltage Games

’90s kids are psyched for Blair Witch

Fans of the 1990’s mystery/psych horror film The Blair Witch Project were super psyched when the reveal trailer for Blair Witch was shown at E3 2019. It’s a new story set in the Blair Witch universe and developed by Layers of Fear creator Bloober Team. You’ll experience the effect of fear and what it does to the mind, learn more about your reactions to danger and how you behave under pressure and see just how terrifying the horrors of the Blair Witch is. But don’t worry, you have your loyal, adorable canine friend Bullet by your side the whole time to keep you sane. The game releases on August 30th on Xbox One and PC and we’ll have our full review of the game published for you soon.

Wreckfest, Hold your Engines

Those who purchased the 24-hour early release Deluxe Edition of Wreckfest are a little disappointed after the game did load when booting up. Nevertheless, it’s a challenging arcade racer with impressive car crash physics. The game releases on the 27th for PC, Xbox One and PS4. I’m sure the experienced team at Bugbear will quickly have the game at full throttle. Maybe just hold off for a day or two.

Great game… I get the pre-order bonus so I can play tonight and the games doesn't load!#Wreckfest pic.twitter.com/aJgHB0YQH4

Control

Control releases on the 27th of August on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game had a big week during Gamescom, with developer Remedy Games showing off the game to attendees. Dubbed as “2019’s strangest – and smartest – single player shooter” Control has a lot of work to do to fulfil the hype. It’s an action-adventure game with a deep, dark and mysterious plot you’re tasked with solving and a satisfying combat style that lets you have fun along the way. Judging by its reception on Twitter so far, I’m sure most will have fun with this one.

Non-Motocross fans, skip paragraph and proceed to next subheading

Fans of Motocross can purchase MXGP 2019 by renowned Italian motorcycle racing video game developer Milestone srl. The game releases on the 27th for Xbox One, PC and PS4. This is the official game for the 2019 MXGP season and is oddly timed considering the season started earlier this year in March.

The released gameplay video makes the racer look fairly straightforward. You’re competing in events as your favourite racer, there’s no music, the terrain is detailed however, the physics of the bike and the track don’t seem to correlate with each other. I’m no motocross expert but it looks as though the bike is simply sliding without being impeded by divots in the tracks. I’ll let you decide.

The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan

I really like the title of this game, I like that Conrad could pass as Wayne Rooney’s doppelgänger and I’m glad SuperMassiveGames, the creator of Until Dawn has more storytelling for us. Man of Madan is the first of at least eight games in The Dark Pictures anthology. It’s a tale of five friends, setting sail on a holiday diving trip to find a WWII wreck.

It’s not all smooth sailing though. The crew explore the wreck, someone didn’t read the do not touch sign, and unexpected guests arrive. You can all live or you can all die. It’s completely up to you, or you and three friends in Movie Night Mode, or two of you in Shared Story online co-op. The game will be available on August 30th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

We hope you have a great gaming week and if you’re super thrilled or super annoyed with the new releases let us know!

Lachlan's passion for gaming started when he played DOS games like Commander Keen and Wacky Races. His passion grew when he discovered his Aunt's Atari 2600 and was given a Game Boy for Christmas from his Pa. His favourite console has been the PlayStation 1. Right now he has become a little lazy with gaming but still enjoys the occasional FIFA session. He hopes to get back into playing games more regularly so he can switch off from the real world like he did as a Kid. He's excited about the introduction of VR and hopes for some great VR titles.
