Sid Meier’s Civilization VII’s Update 1.5.1 is scheduled to arrive the week of November 9, bringing a new Liberation system, two map types and changes to how players unlock Great People. The official announcement gives a release window rather than a specific launch day.
Liberation will let players return captured settlements to their original founders, improving relations with them. Players will also be able to free conquered City-States that were previously under their Suzerainty and reclaim their bonuses. That gives liberation a practical incentive alongside its diplomatic benefit: restoring a former City-State relationship can recover bonuses lost through conquest.
The map additions take different approaches. Randomized Earth will feature generated terrain with a choice of historic or randomized starting locations, while Donut Map will feature both interior and exterior oceans.
Great People are getting a more fundamental rules change: access will move away from the production queue and instead depend on unique unlock conditions. The important distinction is how they are obtained, rather than simply where they appear in the interface; individual unlock requirements have not yet been detailed.
For empire management, Update 1.5.1 will add Unit List and Map Search panels, intended to make managing an empire easier. Full patch notes are due next week and are expected to detail stability improvements, bug fixes and other improvements alongside the announced gameplay changes.
