We learned about Super Nintendo World late last year in a surprise announcement from Nintendo. The video game company is bringing a themed amusement park to Universal Studios around the world, and we’re finally learning some details about it.
A recent trademark filing from Nintendo for Super Nintendo World offers some insight to the features of the upcoming theme park. The filing lists a bunch of general theme park features that are predictable but still exciting to see–things like apparel, Halloween costumes, gaming consoles, toys, and other merchandise.
The biggest hint we noticed was the phrase “management or arrangement of kart racing,” which of course we’re assuming means a theme park ride–or rides?!–based on the popular Mario Kart games. Though you likely won’t get to throw banana peels and turtle shells at your friends, we expect the karts and tracks will have you nerding out at all the familiar designs, colors, and characters from the classic racing series.
Another part of the filing mentions “hotel accommodation services.” Universal Studios features resorts at all of their parks, and it looks like Nintendo will be adding their charm to a hotel or two. It isn’t clear if the Nintendo-themed accommodations will be whole new resorts or remodels of existing properties, but I’m already imagining an array of themed rooms I could stay in for a small fortune.
These hints and clues do wonders for the imagination, but don’t expect to be zooming through a Rainbow Road Rollercoaster any time soon. Nintendo plans to open the first Super Nintendo World in Japan in time for the 2020 Olympics, but no timelines have been given for other Universal parks.
