Today, Nintendo announced Splatoon 2’s next Splatfest, a multiplayer event where players choose a team based on a preference. The last Splatfest pit players against each other with a Mayo vs Ketchup theme, and now Inklings will have to side with one of two superpowers.

Splatfest

Nintendo revealed the Splatfest theme and timeframe on Twitter today. The event will take place the first weekend of September and consist of Team Flight and Team Invisibility. Would you rather be able to fly like Superman or sneak around unseen like Violet from The Incredibles? …What other superheroes have invisibility?

Few details have been given about this Splatfest, but it will likely take place September 1st and 2nd for 24 hours like the last event. Once voting is open, lock in your superpower preference at the video screen in Inkopolis Square. The winner of Splatfests is determined by three numbers: popular vote, solo mode wins, and team wins.

We also know about the Splatfest-exlcusive map, Shifty Station, which will make a comeback in a slightly different layout this time. The event’s maps should rotate between it and standard game maps, though new ones could be introduced.

This will mark the game’s second true Splatfest; the first one saw Team Mayo win the battle of the condiments in a heated competition. On top of the Turf Wars and team rivalry, Splatfests are about winning Sea Snails, a valuable in-game currency that allows players to reassign abilities and enhance their gear.

Nintendo should reveal more details soon. Stay tuned to A9K for the latest.

Splatoon 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
