Three exciting additions are on their way to Splatoon 2, including new maps and an interesting special weapon. Nintendo revealed the updates at Gamescom today. Read on for the details.
Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami shared the news in a very Nintendo video, posted above. Nogami first announced the new Manta Maria map, which is set on a ship with three huge masts that appear to be climbable with platforms at various heights on each. The Manta Maria will be playable in Turf Wars and Ranked Battles starting August 26th.
The game’s popular Salmon Run mode is also receiving a much-needed new stage called Lost Outpost, and it’s available now, once you download the update. Lost Outpost features a lot of walls, so communication will be important here as you and your teammates are swarmed by angry fish. Be sure to shout “This way!” so your fellow Inklings know where the action is.
Both maps will also be available in The Shoal for local multiplayer.
The last upcoming piece of content is a new special weapon called the Bubble Blower, which fires up to three large bubbles that can be filled with ink as they travel through the air. If your team’s ink fills the bubble, it explodes to ink the surrounding area — and hopefully take out an enemy. If the opposing team shoots the bubble for too long, the bubble will go away. The Forge Splattershot Pro will be the first weapon to receive the Bubble Blower special weapon on September 2nd.
What update are you most excited about? The Bubble Blower seems interesting, but I doubt it will replace my favorite specials like the Curling Bomb Launcher and Splashdown. As a Salmon Run addict, I’ve been dying for a new map to shake things up, so I’m ready to try out Lost Outpost ASAP.
Splatoon 2 is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
