All aboard the retro hype train!
Nintendo’s done it again with another retro mini console announcement. This time it’s the SNES Classic, which will come with 21 pre-installed Nintendo games, including one that has never been released.
Much like the NES Classic, which is no longer in production, the SNES Classic is a miniature plug-and-play version of a retro console, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The original SNES released in 1991 and was home to many classics, such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, and F-ZERO.
Games included on the SNES Classic are listed below, via Nintendo.
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- EarthBound
- Final Fantasy III
- F-ZERO
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch-Out!!
- Yoshi’s Island
That’s right, Star Fox 2, a never-before-released title, will be fully playable on the SNES Classic. All you have to do to unlock it is beat the first level of the original Star Fox game.
Nintendo announced the release date of the mini console as September 29th with a suggested retail price of $79.99. This is about $20 higher than the NES Classic price point, but — as Nintendo noted in their press release — several games are huge RPG’s that will take players dozens of hours to complete.
The system will come with two controllers, which can be used in several multiplayer games, such as Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, and Secret of Mana.
Though you’ll have to wait until September 29th to pick up the SNES Classic, you can read up on the retro console on its official website and stay tuned to A9K for more updates.

Wow. Wasn’t expecting star fox 2! What other secrets is Nintendo keeping from us. Only could have topped this with that Mother game all the hard cores ask for.
