The penultimate day of SGDQ 2023 was absolutely stacked with great speedruns, so we’ve whipped up a list of recommendations if you’re not sure where to start. As always, this is not intended to be a definitive list, but simply a short selection of speedruns to get you started. We’ll do our best to update this article with replays when they are available, but if you want to watch these speedruns as soon as possible, head over to the Games Done Quick Twitch channel or their YouTube channel.

The Best Speedruns of SGDQ 2023 Day 6

Amnesia: Rebirth (Any%) by bloodthunder

Although the horror games block took place on day 4, runner bloodthunder brought the spooky vibes on SGDQ 2023 day 6 with a great speedrun of Amnesia: Rebirth. This first-person horror adventure usually involves lurking through creepy, atmospheric environments, but bloodthunder opted for a quicker route. Through the use of numerous glitches, including wall clips and prop flying, most of this speedrun is spent out-of-bounds, bypassing huge portions of the game by breaking out of the map. Bloodthunder also does a great job explaining the game’s twisting and complex narrative, properly setting the stage for the upcoming sequel, Amnesia: The Bunker.

Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master (Expert) by dagronSR

The Shinobi 3 run from SGDQ 2023 day 6 is excellent speedrunning, pure and simple. Playing on Expert difficulty, runner dagronSR had a hell of a run, pulling off tricky wall clips, optimized movement tech, and clean quick-kills on bosses. It also helps that Shinobi 3 is peak Sega Genesis, with eye-pleasing pixel art, banger music, and even a surfing level. Check out the Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master speedrun from SGDQ 2023 day 6 if you want great retro action with high stakes and undeniably impressive gameplay.

Wild Guns (Any%, Hard, Co-op) by giygsblues and Crak Attack

If the live audience at SGDQ 2023 weren’t feeling awake before this run, they certainly must have afterward, because the Wild Guns speedrun was phenomenally energetic. Many yee-haws were had during this cowboy-themed run and gun retro shooter, as giygsblues and Crak Attack dominated the story mode on Hard difficulty. Deadshot accurate blasting combined with consistently hilarious commentary made this speedrun 20 minutes of joyous 16-bit fun. Add some rootin’ and tootin’ into your day and check out the Wild Guns speedrun from SGDQ 2023 day 6.

Star Wars: Dark Forces (Easy, TFE) by CovertMuffin

With his infectiously cheerful attitude and excellent explanations of tricks, CovertMuffin provided one of the best speedruns of SGDQ 2023 day 6 when he played Dark Forces. This retro, first-person Star Wars shooter, which is often compared to DOOM, is about as fast-paced as they come. Sliding past Storm Troopers and punching many foes in the bum, CovertMuffin tore up Dark Forces while keeping things lighthearted and informative. Showing us all the best use for thermal detonators, the Dark Forces speedrun was a fun afternoon watch at SGDQ 2023 day 6.

Kaizo Monkey Ball (Story Mode) by IkeSMB

Anyone who has played it will undoubtedly agree that the Monkey Ball series is incredibly tough, despite its cheery personality. Unsatisfied with the challenge presented by the existing games in the series, fans have created Kaizo Monkey Ball, a game full of user-created levels that are infinitely more difficult than the base games. With massive speed and skill, runner IkeSMB sped through this impossibly hard fangame, proving that the Monkey Ball community is as skillful as they are masochistic. If you want fast gameplay and unbelievably clench-worthy tricks, check out this amazing speedrun from SGDQ 2023 day 6!

Closing out the penultimate day of the marathon, SGDQ 2023 hit a major donation milestone and raised over $1,000,000 for Doctors Without Borders. It’s always nice to see the gaming and speedrun communities come together for a good cause, and with one day of SGDQ 2023 left, we can’t wait to see what the final donation total is.
