Fortnite v42.30 changes how the game handles bandwidth and high-end assets. According to Insider Gaming, Fortnite now automatically balances a player’s internet connection between gameplay and streamed assets, while the Epic Games Launcher has replaced its former High Resolution Textures option with Epic Quality Assets.
The new Epic Quality Assets setting downloads those assets directly to a PC, allowing players to obtain the best visual quality without depending on their internet connection, the outlet reports. Anyone who already had High Resolution Textures installed will be switched to Epic Quality Assets automatically.
The interesting distinction is how the two changes address different sides of Fortnite’s asset delivery. Automatic balancing manages the connection when assets are being streamed, while the optional download keeps the highest-quality assets locally. For PC players deciding between storage use and reliance on streaming, Epic Quality Assets provides the local-download route.
Fortnite’s social interface has also been rearranged. Insider Gaming reports that the friends list received a makeover and has returned to the Social tab within the Sidebar. The same update addresses issues involving several cosmetics, including the Cupid Kitty Sidekick, PAC-MAN, Peter B. Parker and the Batmobile, alongside others.
A separate option for high-quality textures is planned for a future Fortnite update, according to the report, although no date has been provided. For now, v42.30’s practical focus is clear: manage bandwidth automatically, give PC players a locally installed path to Fortnite’s best visual assets, and put the redesigned friends list back under the Sidebar’s Social tab.
