SGDQ 2023 is already approaching the halfway mark as this week-long marathon closes out its third day of speedrunning fun. Once again, SGDQ 2023 delivered a golden day of fast gaming and charitable donations, with an even bigger variety of games. From first-person shooters to point ‘n click adventures and even some hugely popular RPGs, SGDQ 2023 day 3 was stacked with great stuff to watch.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to watch as many speedruns as we would’ve liked, but the ones we caught were fantastic! If you’re looking for some quality SGDQ 2023 speedruns to check out, we’ve whipped up this list of our favorite speedruns from the day! As always, this is not an exhaustive list, since the mass majority of speedruns from SGDQ 2023 are worth checking out. Bringing up the energy bright and early on SGDQ 2023 day 3, danejerus offered this wacky speedrun of the 2007 FPS, Alpha Prime. Blasting enemies in the face with shotguns, surfing on floating chairs, and witty jokes are all par for the course in this brisk any% run. Last year, we had a blast watching danejerus speedrun Fashion Police Squad at AGDQ 2023 day 3, so it was no surprise that this run of Alpha Prime was just as entertaining.

Keeping the theme of old-school FPS games going, runner tbcr offered an ultra-quick speedrun of Marathon Infinity, developed by none other than Bungie. This sci-fi shooter offers a bit more complexity in terms of level requirements, which tbcr perfectly explains as he plays through every main level in the campaign. Given the recent announcement of Bungie’s new Marathon game, this year has been kind to fans of the franchise. If you’re excited for the new game, but you’ve yet to experience the classic Marathon Infinity, you should definitely watch this fantastic speedrun from SGDQ 2023 day 3!

Like LOOM from SGDQ 2023 day 2, Maniac Mansion resonates with me on a deep, spiritual level. Representing point ‘n click fans everywhere, Sathdresh performed an any% speedrun of the NES version of this iconic adventure, full of banger tunes and clever sequence breaks. With his crew of Michael, Syd, and Dave, Sathdress overcame adversity and thwarted Dr. Fred’s mad scientist plans, all while doing battle with sentient tentacles. This speedrun of Maniac Mansion

Like any good chef worth their salt, adef stepped up to the stove on SGDQ 2023 day 3 and mixed up a delicious speedrun of Ratatouille on the GameCube. Deliciously ridiculous, this run perfectly encapsulates the type of eccentric speedruns you can only get during a live GDQ marathon. Displaying some proper speed tech while keeping things tastily comedic, the Ratatouille speedrun from SGDQ 2023 day 3 is a wild ride.

This speedrun was a marathon within a marathon, as Chronos_R ran through the entire Elder Scrolls series, including Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. In true Elder Scrolls speedrunning fashion, this run is full of incredible glitches, unexpected bugs, and unmatched first-person adventuring. Some of the glitches are truly mindblowing as well, breaking open these massive RPGs in hilarious ways. If you enjoy glitch-heavy any% runs, this is a wonderful way to spend two hours, and it effectively doubles as a crash course in Elder Scrolls history. Plus, there’s a bonus run of the spin-off, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard to cap things off at the end!

Demonstrating his mastery over Halo 3‘s campaign, runner g3lk_jr pulled out all the stops with an overwhelmingly well-executed speedrun. Playing the game on Legendary mode, where one-shot deaths are nearly inescapable, g3lk_jr trounced over the Covenant in the blink of an eye. Highlighted by precise shooting, high-risk tricks, and grenade-jumps aplenty, the run offers a proper blend of top tier gameplay and cunning glitches. With informative commentary, cheeky jokes, and anxiety-inducing battles, the Halo 3 speedrun made SGDQ 2023 day 3 even better.

As SGDQ 2023 day 3 came to an end, the donation total has nearly doubled yet again! So far, the marathon has raised over $450,000 for Doctors Without Borders, and it’s not even halfway done! Last year’s Summer Games Done Quick marathon hit $3,000,000 by the end, and SGDQ 2023 is on pace to match.
