It’s an exciting time to be a Pokémon GO player. Developer Niantic has announced the popular Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo is coming to the app game, and the previous four Legendaries — Lugia, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos – -will be returning throughout the rest of the month.
Mewtwo was unlocked today when the Pokémon was defeated at a Pokémon GO Stadium event in Japan. Niantic says Mewtwo will start appearing “in the coming weeks” in Exclusive Raid Battles, which is a new type of Raid Battle. Here is Niantic’s rundown on the new feature:
“Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.”
Looks like more Legendaries could become available in Exclusive Raid Battles and hatch from Raid Eggs soon, so keep your Pokémon powered up for those big battles. You could bulk your team up with one of the Legendary Birds — Lugia, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos — as they’ll be appearing in regular Raid Battles August 14th through August 31st.
The Legendary Birds were first added to the game last month after Chicago’s Pokémon GO Fest, but they were only spawning for brief periods of time. This month may be your last chance to catch these powerful Pokémon for a while, so look out for those Raids.
