With Sony’s E3 press conference right around the corner, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on some of their favorite franchises. There’s some pretty big titles that have been floating in development for a while, namely Kingdom Hearts 3, which was originally announced at E3 2013.
If I was a gambling man, I might’ve predicted a small Kingdom Hearts 3 tease at the end of Sony’s E3 press conference. Instead, developer Square Enix subverted expectations by revealing a new 2 minute long trailer at the franchise based concert tour, the “Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour”.
When Will Kingdom Hearts 3 Release?
As far as release date, it’s anyone’s guess. We recently reported on Square Enix’s insistence that neither Kingdom Hearts 3 nor the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake would be releasing in 2017. My money is on 2019, but it’s complete speculation at this point.
The new trailer gives us a good look at combat, in both bright and dark environments. Additionally, we get a bit of story peppered in with the appearance of Hades, Maleficent, and other villains. There’s also a brief closing scene concerning some of Sora’s motivations, but nothing is for sure yet.
With this new trailer out in the wild, it may indicate that Square Enix is ready to show off the game. The trailer ends with a tease for D23 Expo 2017. Square promises to reveal another new trailer as well as a new in-game world at the expo on July 15th.
Generally speaking, fans have been salivating at the mouth whenever any new Kingdom Hearts 3 content is unveiled. I’ve kept my personal hype levels suppressed, as I wasn’t personally blown away by Final Fantasy XV. Kingdom Hearts 3‘s development has been nothing if secretive and lengthy, so I can only hope they’re working as hard as they say they are.
At any rate, the original Kingdom Hearts celebrates the 15th anniversary of its US release on September 17. Maybe Square Enix has just a bit of info tucked away for the special occasion. Until then, we’ll have to see if the Sony E3 press conference sheds any additional light.
