The newest entry in the wild and weird first-person shooter series, Far Cry 5, has come into the light. Watch the official CG announcement trailer below, and read on for more story and gameplay details.
Far Cry 5 takes place in the open world of fictional Hope County, Montana, marking the first state-side setting for the Far Cry series, which is known for its exotic locations and extreme villains.
“When your arrival incites the cult to violently seize control of the region,” said Ubisoft, “you must rise up and spark the fires of resistance to liberate a besieged community.”
The enemy is Joseph Seed and his religious doomsday cult bent on harvesting the souls of Hope County. Your task as the new junior deputy is to bring an end to Eden’s Gate with the other members of The Resistance, and you have your work cut out for you.
Ubisoft has a small pool of information on the game’s official site, including leveled enemies, co-op mode, allies with special abilities, and a massive weapon and vehicle roster. Also for the first time in Far Cry history, you’ll be able to create your own custom character for taking out religious extremists.
Your character will have access to a lot of help from other Hope County residents. These “Guns for Hire” can join you in combat and use their unique abilities to fight Eden’s Gate. Known allies so far are Pastor Jerome Jeffries, pilot Nick Rye, and barkeep Mary May Fairgrave. Click the character’s name for their individual trailers.
Ubisoft will discuss more details of Far Cry 5 at E3. We’re hoping to see a gameplay reveal, more ally characters, and additional weapons and vehicles.
Far Cry 5 is set to release February 27th, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
