Ubisoft has confirmed the release date for Far Cry 3 coming to current gen consoles as June 26th. The game is seeing a re-release for the first time as Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, with early access given to those who purchase the Far Cry 5 season pass.
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition‘s June release date was announced on the Far Cry 5 Steam page with a simple post today. The post also explained that players with the season pass for Far Cry 5, which just launched today, will get early access to the Far Cry 3 re-release on May 29th, four weeks before everyone else. The Far Cry 5 season pass costs $29.99 and adds three pretty hefty-looking DLC adventures to the game.
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition was first revealed back in February when the Far Cry 5 season pass was first being discussed by Ubisoft. This re-release will mark the first time Far Cry 3 is available on PS4 and Xbox One consoles. It was originally released in 2012 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC — the latter of which will also receive the Classic Edition.
Set on a tropical island between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Far Cry 3 tasks players with rescuing the protagonist’s friends, who have been kidnapped by pirates. The open-world first-person-shooter brings all the colorful characters, explosive action, and tactical combat the Far Cry series is known for.
Far Cry 5 breaks the franchise’s “exotic locale” mold by setting it in fictional Hope County, Montana, which is infested with a religious cult and its fanatic leader, Father Joseph. The season pass will get you three outlandish DLC’s — one in Vietnam, one on Mars, and one with a full-fledged zombie mode. Plus, of course, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition early access at no extra cost.
Far Cry 5 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
