It’s official, The Escapists 2 has an actual release date. The sequel to the hit sandbox prison escape game will be releasing on August 22nd later this year. The game was first announced last October and a new trailer has also been published by the team behind the game.

The game has been confirmed to feature 10 new prisons which are very diverse. They include but are not limited to the following:

  • A moving train
  • Frost Fort
  • Outer Space

As a result, there’s a nice range of brand new settings for players to try and overcome. For the first time in the series, multiplayer will be featured in the game and players will be able to work together to break out of prison.

It features a “drop in and out” system that lets players join and leave in-progress games at any time. This is for both local and online play. As a result, players can just plan escapes or take part in the escape attempt without needing to play the rest of the mission. This is done by joining an in-progress game or joining a mission at the start of the attempt. The developer hasn’t stated how this will work so it’s assumed that players will need to manually put their game online.

In addition to this, there is a range of new craftable items including a home-made taser which can be used to knock out guards. Players can also expect to see a brand new combat system. However, we don’t know anything about this new combat system right now. Hopefully the developer will unveil it soon.

As a bonus, anyone who pre-orders the game will receive an additional prison. “The Glorious Regime” features in the above trailer and should provide players with a nice challenge.

The Escapists 2 will be releasing for PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. However, the Switch version does not currently have a release date.
