Dominus Gladiatus is out now after a year of development, with a 20% launch discount. The release follows months of demo feedback that helped improve the game before launch.
The official launch announcement says thousands of people played the demo over the past few months, sending feedback and identifying broken strategies. That gives the release a useful bit of context: its pre-launch testing included players finding ways to break the intended balance, not just trying out the basics.
Dominus Gladiatus puts players in charge of building a Ludus, purchasing slaves and training them as gladiators in pursuit of victories and coin. Recruiting, training and equipping fighters is only part of the management job; injuries, fatigue and morale also need attention. Those responsibilities make the condition of the roster a consideration alongside its equipment and training.
The competitive path takes players up against rival Domini and through the Grand Tournament, giving that preparation a goal beyond maintaining the Ludus.
