Dark Souls is famous for its epic, and very challenging boss fights. Uber-difficult encounters with 8-bit-era-difficulty, scored with intimidatingly epic music contrasts sharply to the rest of the game’s sullen tones.

I’m sure many Souls players would love to relive their favorite encounters or race others to beat them all consecutively. Although there isn’t an official way to do this, a mod created by Wulf2k has made it possible. Wulf2k previously created the Dark Souls Connectivity Mod that improved matchmaking.

To start Boss-rushing, download the EXE file, select one of your characters or create a new one, and choose your encounter.

Wulf2k warns that this mod – like others – could result in progression loss. He recommends using a save file you wouldn’t mind having corrupted in case the mod breaks progress, stopping you from finishing the game.

Reverse Boss Rush and Regular Boss Rush are also available according to the reddit post.

Here’s a video of the mod.

If the EXE will not work with your copy of Dark Souls, Wulf2k recommends running as an administrator.

“When you finish boss rush mode, your souls are your final time. Lower is better.”

There’s also a disclaimer

“Disclaimer: Wulf2k is not responsible for your computer catching fire. Any STDs that arise in the next two weeks are purely a result of your poor decision making and not the responsibility of Wulf2k. This mod will not prevent attacks by bears, it is recommended that you stay away from the entire Ursine family. The mod will also not prevent hedgehog attacks, but I can’t in good conscience recommend you avoid them.”

A more serious disclaimer would note that mods are never guaranteed to work and could cause conflicts with hardware or software currently on your computer. Be safe, read the comments, and trust your gut.

Have fun…if you dare.

Mathew Falvai

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
