Blizzard has confirmed the rumor from yesterday. The Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion will be coming later this year in August. As expected, the expansion is coming with a host of new cards and also a single player expansion.

There are 135 new cards coming in this new expansion. This group will be arriving with a brand new keyword for players to learn and utilize in matches. “Lifesteal” heals the player based on the amount of damage that card deals. In addition to this, Legendary Hero cards have also been confirmed.

Legendary Hero cards replace the current hero with an undead version. This new hero casts a Battlecry, adds armor and provides the player with a new hero power. As an example, Blizzard has revealed one of these cards: Deathstalker Rexxar. It gives the player 5 bonus armor and deals 2 damage to all enemy minions when the card is used. However, the new card also comes with a very unique Hero Power called “Build-a-Beast”. When used, this power lets the player stitch two dead minions together to form a new “Zombeast”. It merges their Mana cost, Attack and Health points together in addition to merging their text. This card is then added to the players hand for use later.

In addition to the new cards, there’s also a new single player expansion. The Lich King himself will be the final opponent as players fight through the Icecrown Citadel. Missions in this expansion will be free-to-play and will reward the player with card packs for completing them. Completing the Prologue also rewards the player with a random Legendary Hero card.

Like with past expansions, there’s a pre-order option to purchase 50 card packs for $50. This is a limited time offer only however so anyone interested in this should act quickly. Doing this will also reward the player with a special card back and these packs cannot be opened until the expansion arrives in Early August.
