Nicalis has released a new blog post which confirms some bad news. Binding of Issac: Afterbirth+ will not be released as a Nintendo Switch launch title for the consoles release day.
The developer stated that the game is being delayed “due to some issues beyond our control”. Those who have pre-ordered the game would have noticed the release date change which has pushed the game back. While the game will still be released in March, it won’t launch alongside the Nintendo Switch.
It’s not all bad news however as Nicalis did confirm the contents of the physical version of the game. The launch edition of the game will contain a limited edition sticker sheet, a reversible cover and also a 20 page instruction manual. This is exclusive to the launch edition of the game and a later physical edition won’t contain the exclusive manual.
A new release date for the Nintendo Switch version hasn’t been provided yet. However, Nicalis did confirm that the game would be released later in March for the Nintendo Switch. We will update you about this when we learn more.
Afterbirth+ is the second expansion for Binding of Issac and was released for PC last month. The expansion will also be arriving for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game later this quarter. This expansion is the follow-up to the 2015 Afterbirth expansion which was only released in 2016 for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
The blog post also confirms that the team is still working on Booster Packs for the game. Nicalis stated that players should expect one or two updates before the Booster Packs are added to the game. Meanwhile, players should keep uploading their mods to the Steam Workshop as the team is still reviewing them.
We will update you as the situation unfolds for Binding of Issac on the Nintendo Switch.
