“The best demo I’ve ever seen at E3.”
This is my kind of news. A little Nintendo, a little Elder Scrolls, a little mystery.
Bethesda has been very hush-hush about games they’re bringing to the Nintendo Switch. The studio, along with a slew of other developers, have been confirmed to be working with Nintendo to bring third-party games to the new hybrid console. The first look trailer of the Switch featured Skyrim being played on both the home and handheld portions of the console, but Bethesda refused to confirm it being released for the Switch. However, it looks like that may change soon.
In a recent interview with Glixel, Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard sang the Switch’s praises–well as much as he could without breaking a non-disclosure agreement. “I love it. I got to play it… One of the best demos I’ve ever seen. Probably the best demo I’ve ever seen. At E3.” That’s a big compliment.
In a followup question, Glixel asked, “Can you really bring Skyrim with you on the go?” Howard responded, “It’s the same game on the TV and on the other screen.” That’s a confirmation, right? Right?! Hopefully Bethesda will make an official statement to the same effect soon.
That’s not the only Bethesda mystery Howard touched on. An Elder Scrolls 6 has been in the talks for a while, but no one has confirmed it’s in development. Even Howard, who leads the development for Elder Scrolls games, could only say, “It’s not what you would call a big, active project right now… It’s certainly a game that we’ll be making one day.” So it’s kind of in development. Kind of not. But that’s more than we’ve heard from anyone else at the studio. Expect to see some other games from Bethesda before putting your Tamriel pants on again.
The Nintendo Switch is set to release in March of 2017. We’ll keep you updated with news of games for the hybrid console as they’re confirmed.
