ARMS

The first major update coming to ARMS will introduce the character Max Brass, three new ARMS, and the Sky Arena stage. Now we know even more is coming with tomorrow’s update, including a versus mode where players can take control of Hedlok, the game’s creepiest and toughest enemy.

Speaking with Eurogamer, ARMS producer Kosuke Yabuki shared some details of update 2.0.

“I can talk about it a little bit now – Max Brass is the main part of tomorrow’s update, but there is a new versus mode where in a fight between two or three players there’s a Hedlok mask players battle over, and when you get the mask your own character can turn into Hedlok. If one player turns into Hedlok it’ll be up to the other players to take him down. The Hedlok mode won’t just be available in one v one versus modes – it’ll be available online and in every multiplayer mode.”

Hedlok wields four to six arms at once and packs a big HP bar, making him incredibly difficult to 1. Hit, 2. Dodge, and 3. Actually wear down enough to beat. Controlling Hedlock would definitely be too over-powered in a 1v1 match, but taking on multiple players as this boss sounds crazy fun.

Yabuki went on to discuss adjustments being made to some characters’ stats, though he wouldn’t get into specifics.

“One thing with a balance update – if you say we’ve nerfed this character, fans of that character won’t be happy about it! That’s something we’re aware of, and with this update the balance adjustments are done in a way not to make any character less good than they are at the moment… I’d like to create an environment where one particular technique or one character with a certain combination of Arms isn’t too dominant, and that everyone can enjoy the game using a wide variety of characters and techniques.”

A full list of patch notes will be available once the update is live.

Update 2.0 hits ARMS tomorrow, July 11th.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
