ARK: Survival Evolved Official Switch Servers Sunset – What Players Need to Know

Studio Wildcard has announced that it will shut down the official Nintendo Switch servers for ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Ultimate Survivor Edition on August 31, 2026. This closure marks the end of the official online experience for Switch players, although unofficial servers and single-player modes will remain accessible.

The studio confirmed this change in a community update, expressing gratitude to the more than one million players who have explored ARK’s official Switch servers since the original port launched in 2018. This player count also includes those who joined with ARK: Ultimate Survivor Edition, a remastered version released by Grove Street Games in 2022.

What Ends on August 31

After August 31, players will no longer have access to Studio Wildcard’s official Switch-hosted worlds for either version of ARK. These official servers have served as shared survival spaces where players built bases, tamed dinosaurs, gathered resources, and competed against both the island’s predators and other survivors.

This distinction is significant. ARK’s gameplay loop transitions players from a bare-handed scramble for food and shelter into increasingly complex dinosaur taming, crafting, exploration, and base-building. Losing access to official worlds means losing a specific set of persistent communities, their rivalries, alliances, and settlements—not the entire game.

Unofficial Servers and Solo Survival Remain Intact

Studio Wildcard has confirmed that unofficial servers and single-player modes will remain fully playable after the official Switch shutdown. Players who wish to continue their dinosaur adventures still have options, whether they choose to play alone, join an independently run server, or create a new tribe away from the retiring official network.

For existing Switch players, the practical question is less about whether ARK will disappear and more about where they will play next. Regulars on official servers should view the remaining time as a farewell window for their current worlds; others can still access the survival sandbox through the modes that remain supported.

Are you planning one last run on ARK’s official Switch servers before August 31, or will you take your tribe to an unofficial world?
