Nintendo rocks the nostalgia game harder than anyone, and adding some Gamecube games to the Switch Store would be a no brainer. We’ve already seen the two GC Zeldas – Wind Waker and Twilight Princess – get the HD treatment for the Wii U, but there are plenty more GC classics that could use a call-up the current roster.
Super Mario Sunshine
Could be tricky without the Gamecube’s pressure sensitive shoulder buttons, but Nintendo is pretty clever.
How about another Super Mario All Stars but this collection adds Mario 64 and Sunshine? Who wouldn’t pay full price for that? That’s probably wishful thinking as Nintendo would much rather sell them piecemeal but they’ve offered generous compilations before…
Metroid Prime (trilogy?)
Seems like Nintendo finally got the internet and started reading about fans willing to sell their organs for a new Metroid Prime. Their ‘logo that won E3’ was S0ny levels of hyping a non-existent game (Kojima must be jealous).
Surely they know how popular the franchise still is and how much this would sell for pure nostalgia alone. Make it the trilogy and Switch fans will be thrice as happy.
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Many fans of the more traditional Mario RPG and Paper Mario games have been continually disappointed by the franchise’s steps away from the classic formula. A hilarious RPG with the awesome timing-based turn-based combat that South Park: Stick of Truth proved is still an excellent way to maintain compelling combat.
Plus, the iconic paper-style would hold up extremely well.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III
This might be impossible with EA holding the rights to Star Wars games but a man can dream. All of the games in the series provide challenging, fast-paced, and authentic Star Wars dogfighting. For console owners that missed out on TIE Fighter, this was as good as it got.
I chose the third entry because it allowed you to play through the second game using split-screen co-op. It was difficult as hell to see what was going on, but co-op was something even TIE Fighter didn’t have.
They don’t make many like this anymore. Ikaruga Shoot-em-up insanity was made forever compelling by the addition of the white/black mechanic. When your ship is black it absorbs black bullets and you deal more damage to white enemies (vice-versa when your ship is white).
The constant switching added an incredibly simple, but addicting layer to a very challenging shooter, that was now allowed to throw even more bullets at you.
A tough game to track down a physical copy of, it’s readily available on Steam for just $9.99, but would be fantastic to have on the portable Switch.
I’m sure I missed your favorites. I’d like to see your lists in the comments below.
